RAW Full Form 

RAW full form is described as Research and Analysis Wing. It is known as the main intelligence organisation of India. Its duties include conducting clandestine operations, obtaining external intelligence, and advising the government on foreign policy matters that affect national security. India had a war defect during the Sino-Indian War in 1962, and as a result, RAW was born. In 1968, the RAW organisation was established. 

History of RAW

• In 1962, during the Sino-Indian War when India was humiliated, the journey of RAW started there.  
• On September 21, 1968, as a separate intelligence organization RAW was founded. The intention of RAW was to gather intelligence outside of India’s boundaries. 
• The RAW focus was mostly on Pakistan and China which was to focus on their nuclear programs and military expertise. 
• In Starting of 1970, RAW helped the Bangladeshi independence movement which was against Pakistan. 
• In 1980, During the Sri Lankan Civil War, RAW supported the Tamil Tigers Rebel Group. 
• In 1990, RAW was reorganised for shifting geopolitical conditions. The function is to cover terrorism, economic intelligence and counterintelligence. 
• In 1999, during the Kargil War between India and Pakistan, RAW played an important role in helping Indian Armed Forces. 

Objectives of RAW

• To perform undercover operations to safeguard India’s national interests and to keep a watch on developments in neighbouring nations that directly impact India’s national security.
• Operations to battle terrorism and destroy terrorist organisations that pose a threat to India.
• In order to support India’s nuclear programme.
• To gather and destroy data about the organisational setup and leadership philosophies of various insurgency groups outside of India that pose a danger to the country’s security and integrity.
• Control and restrict Pakistan’s access to military hardware, which mostly comes from the US, China, and Europe.

Primary Divisions of RAW 

1. External Intelligence: 

This department is in charge of compiling and analysing data from sources outside of India.

2. Division of Technical Support: 

This division’s objective is to use technology to gather and process intelligence. Additionally, it provides technical support to other RAW departments.

3. Aviation Research Centre: 

This section manages a fleet of aircraft and is in charge of performing aerial surveillance and reconnaissance duties.

4. Joint Intelligence Committee: 

All Indian intelligence organisations report to the Joint Intelligence Committee, which is in charge of planning their intelligence-gathering operations.

5. Operations: 

This department is in charge of planning and executing covert operations to further India’s national security objectives.
