On the other hand, the Ministry of Indian Education introduced this policy in 2020 with the motto to educate, encourage and enlighten.   • The NEP will be introduced to us on 29 July 2020. However, the plan of the entire implementation of NEP is sought to be completed by 2040. 
  • This policy was introduced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. 
  • The main contribution in creating the NEP goes to former ISRO chief K. Kasturirangan. 
  • The first education policy came into play in 1968 then followed by another one in 1986. 
  • New education policy will take 6% of GDP to be implemented. 
  • This education policy holds the aim to deliver quality education to all children by 2030. 
  • After the implementation of NEP, schooling will start for children from the age of 3. 
  • With 5+3+3+4 structure, the total years of schooling would be 12 years along with 3 years of pre-schooling.

  • On the other hand, there would be emphasis on teacher’s learning which will be formulated by National Curriculum Framework for Teacher Education (NCFTE).  
  • School exams will be held in 2nd, 5th and 8th class along with boards twice a year by Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development (PARAKH). 

NEP Facts About Higher Education 

There are reforms in the whole education system. Hence, this also includes the higher education system. So, let’s see what all-round development is about.

  • Undergraduate programs will be 4-year based degrees.
  • On the other hand, students will get certification whenever they complete any year of their professional and vocational degree. 
  • In addition, PG degree programs will be limited to 1-2 years while M.Phil programs will no longer be in play. 
  • Students will get a certificate after completing 1 year of their graduate program and a Diploma after 2 years of graduate program. 
  • For higher education, all UGC etc, will be wiped out and Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) will come into play. 
  • On the other hand, HECI will have 4 bodies; National Higher Education Regulatory Council (NHERC) for regulation, National Accreditation Council (NAC) for accreditation, Higher Education Grants Council (HEGC) for funding and General Education Council (GEC) for setting academic standards
  • The fee structure for higher education in both public and pirate univerotes will be fixed. 
  • NEP also enables the International universities to set up their campuses in India. 
  • NTA or National Testing Agency will conduct entrance examinations and perform other additional responsibilities like, JEE & NEET.
