SSB Full Form: How does SSB divide the Seats?

SSB Full Form

SSB full form stands for Services Selection Board. The Services Selection Board is the principal body that values applicants for the posts of officers in the Indian Armed Forces.

The Board uses the traditional framework for assessment, which includes meetings, character assessments, and insight assessments, to investigate the validity of becoming an official. 

Members of the Indian Armed Forces with the specialisations of interviewing officers, group task officers (GTO), and also psychologists make up an SSB board.

There are thirteen Services Selection Boards spread out across India, of which the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy each have four, four seats, and five sheets, respectively. The SSB evaluation procedure takes 5 to 6 days.

SSB Interview Process

The SSB interview process is a 5 to 6 days process which depends on the type of SSB interview. SSB centres are located in Allahabad, Bhopal, Kapurthala and Bangalore. 

Screening Test – DAY 1

1. Officer Intelligence Rating Test is conducted on the first day as a first exam for the SSB interview. The test includes the Non-Verbal Ability and Verbal Ability and also general aptitude which consists of two booklets in which the candidate is given 17 min for each booklet. 

2. PPD Test or Picture Prescription Description which is taken along with the OIR test. In this test story writing and also description are taken. In the PPD test, they show the pictures for 30 seconds then they will write the story description. Moreover, after that, the candidates will also narrate their stories. 

3. Group Discussion or GD is taken after the story narration. 12-15 members are divided into sub-groups for group discussion. 

After all these rounds on day 1, the result will be declared around 2 PM by calling out the chest numbers. 30 out of 300 numbers will be selected which are on the basis of previous statistics.

Psychological Test – DAY 2

To check the mental stability of the candidate’s psychological test is conducted on day 2 to know whether they are stable to become an officer or not. Hence, 8 AM is the report time for the candidates in the Examination Hall. 

1. First test of the day is Word Association Test or WAT in which candidates are shown the 60 words one by one staying for 15 seconds per word. In this test, the candidate has to write the sentence after seeing that word. 

2. After the WAT test second test will be the Thematic Appreciation Test in which candidates are shown 12 pictures which includes a blank picture at the last. In the test, the pictures will lack clarity and also are shown for 30 seconds for each picture. A candidate will be given 4 minutes and 30 seconds to write a story on those pictures. 

3. The third test will be the Situation Reaction Test in which a candidate gets 60 situations and 30 minutes will be given to solve those situations. 

4. Day 2 last test will be Personal Description. In this test, every candidate has to write about themselves in detail in 15 minutes.

GTO – DAY 3 and 4 

Days 3 and 4 will be of GTO or Ground Task Obstacles. Therefore, most tasks will be group tasks in this interview process of days 3 and 4.

1. Group Discussion  

Firstly, there will be a group discussion on two topics that are mostly related to current affairs.

2. Group Planning Exercise  

Then there will be Group Planning Exercise that will be every candidate has to build a plan for solving the problems and then the group will be formed for solving the problems. 

3. Lecturette  

After the above two test lecturette test will be conducted for judging the candidate’s personality. In this test,  candidates will be provided with the chest numbers on which their seats are allotted and moreover, on that seats, some of the cards are kept. On those cards, some of the questions will be there and also each candidate has to pick one card and will be given 3 topics and 3 minutes to answer those questions. 

4. Progressive Group Task  

The next test will be Progressive Group Task. In this test, candidates will be given a rope, wooden log, etc to cross the obstacles. 

5. Snake Race or Group Obstacle race  

The snake race or group obstacle race will be the funniest task of days 3 and 4 it is a group task in this one group will compete against the second group and they have to cross the obstacles along with the rope. 

6. Half Group Task  

The half group task is the same as the PGT test but in this group will be divided into half. 

7. Command Task  

After these, there will be a Command task. In command tasks, commanders will be candidates themselves. Hence, they will choose their own 2 candidates for solving and crossing the obstacles. 

8. Individual Obstacles  

Then there will be Individual Obstacles in these every candidate will get 10 obstacles to attempt individually. 

9. Full Group Task  

Lastly, there will be Full Group Task in which they have to carry a stretcher or dummy load from start to finish line. 

PI and Conference – DAY 5 

1. On the last day, Day- 5 the first test will be of Personal Interview. In this, the candidates will know whether they have been selected or not. Each candidate should know that one wrong step or move can ruin their image and also they will not get selected for joining the army. 

2. Last and least will be the conference. At the conference, each candidate will be asked about their stay and also what they have learned from there. The last step is where the candidates will know that they are ready to become an officer.
