1. Baudhayana (800 BC – 740 BC)

Baudhayana is an ancient mathematician who is said to have created the original Pythagoras Theorem in his Sulba Sutras. On the other hand, it is believed that Indians discovered many things like this thousands of years ago before the western civilizations. 

2. Aryabhatta (476 AD – 550 AD)

Aryabhatta was an amazing ancient mathematician and astronomer who is said to have found the number zero “0”. On the other hand, in his one and only surviving work, Aryabhatiya, he has mentioned a broad range of topics such as, multiple equations and astronomical predictions. 

3. Varahmihir (505 AD – 587AD)

Varahmihir, an outstanding Indian astrologer, philosopher, and mathematician who is known for his famous work Pancha Siddhantika. On the other hand, his work included the numerous mathematical equations which also improved the Aryabhatta’s zero’s algebraic properties. In addition, he became the first Indian to discover the Pascal’s triangle. 

4. Patanjali (200 BC – 200 AD) 

Sage Patanjali is known for authoring various Sanskrit texts which include the numerous Yoga Sutras. However, in mythological tales, it is said that Mahayogi Shiva is said to be the main inspiration for this work. 

5. Charak (100 BC  – 150-200 AD) 

Sage Charak is famous for his great work Charak Samhita, which is a classic ancient text on Ayurveda or medicinal herbs. On the other hand, both Charak Samhita and Shushruta Samhita describe that Dhanvantri (god of Ayurveda and Surgery in Hindu mythology) who came out of Amrita Manthan (Churning of The Ocean), is the one who passed this knowledge of Ayurveda to humans.

6. Sushruta (800 BC – 700BC) 

What do you think about the concept of plastic surgery? Would you believe it was something from ancient times? Well, Yes! Sage Shushruta who is also known for being the “Father of Plastic Surgery ” wrote an outstanding text called Shushruta Samhita, a text on advanced medicine and surgery. 

7. Panini  (520 BC – 460 BC)

Do you know that all languages we know in India today originated from Sanskrit? Hence, it is said to be the mother of all languages. On the other hand, the great sage Panini who is said to be the one who took Sanskrit on a whole new level. Yes, he gave out the scientific theory regarding the  phonetics, phonology, and morphology in his great work, Aṣṭādhyāyī.

8. Nagarjuna (150 AD – 250 AD)

Nagarjuna, also known as “Einstein of India ” because of his theory of Sunyavada is something very similar to Einstein’s theory of relativity. On the other hand, he was an amazing Indian Philosopher. 

9. Kanada (600 BC – 800 BC) 

Sage Kanada or also known as sage Kashyap, was a great Indian Scientist and philosopher who is said to have formulated the theory of atoms. And this is surprising that he did that thousands of years ago than John Dalton. On the other hand, he also founded the Indian School of Philosophy, known as Vaisheshika.

10. Brahmagupta (597 AD – 668 AD) 

Brahmagupta, the founder of the area of a cyclic quadrilateral. On the other hand, he was the first to use the number zero “0” in 628 BC. Yes, even before Aryabhatta. However, it was Aryabhatta who introduced it again in the 5th century. Hence, Brahmagupta’s fellow scientist Bhaskara gave him the title of “Ganita Chakra Chudamani”.
