NCR full form is National Capital Region. The metropolitan area includes all the boundaries of Delhi, and other neighbouring districts from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan states. Neighbouring states include Delhi and metropolitan areas are known as NCR. 

History of NCR 

  • The National Capital Region Planning Board Act of 1985 established the National Capital Region (NCR) and its planning board. 
  • That 1985 Act defined the NCR as being the whole of Delhi.
  • The Haryana districts of Gurgaon, Rohtak and the Rewari tehsil then in Mahendragarh district the Uttar Pradesh districts of Bulandshahr, Muzaffarnagar, Faridabad and Sonipat, and Ghaziabad (then including Hapur tehsil), Meerut (then including Baghpat tehsil), and some of the part Rajasthan district of Alwar. 
  • The NCR’s original border, which was established in 1985, covered 34,144 square kilometres (13,183 sq mi).
  • In 1962, Master Plan for Delhi described the area as the Delhi Metropolitan Area(DMA) prior to the creation of NCR( National Captial Region). 

The basis for the concept of NCR 

In order to relieve some of Delhi’s population strain, the First Master Plan for Delhi proposed in 1962 that a significant chunk of Delhi and surrounding towns be merged to create a metropolitan city.
