What is NCA?

NCA or National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) assess the legal education and experience of candidates who have obtained their expertise outside of Canada or in a law program in Canada. Therefore, one can easily enroll in this conversion program to be a legal counsel in Canada. Although, you can work temporarily with a law firm as a law assistant or with any other legal profile but under supervision. However, if you crack the NCA exam then you will have to go through any law society (regulator) in the province or territory to get a license or practice law in court. Besides this, one must pass the barrister/ bar exams for licensing process from the law society Of Ontario which is responsible for licensing and it might cost some extra pennies.

  • Canadian citizen or outsider with a law degree.
  • Any Canadian with a law degree from another country.
  • Anyone holding a bachelor’s degree in law and willing to immigrate to Canada.

Collect the transcripts

To practice law in Canada and give NCA exam, you must collect your all official transcripts and mark sheets.

  • Official letter or certificate from a bar council (if you are a trained lawyer) 

The next step is to mail your official documents (not original) through any secure share service. However, must remember that the official law transcripts must be sent by your law school itself.

What comes after?

Once you crack your NCA exam. The court might ask you to attend a law school for 1-2 years in Canada or get training at  LPP or Law Practice Program. However, if you are not Canadian then you must go through Immigration Refugees and Canadian Citizenship (IRCC) process.

What if I am trained?

However, if you are a foreign-trained lawyer. Then you can either write in any law exam or pursue a clerkship or internship. Therefore, each trained lawyer will have his expertise case by case.
